Now and then I give free rein
To all-consuming thoughts
I roam the streets until it's late
And to myself I talk
'Bout the woman who her man's hand
Holds on own volition
Though her shiner's looming brighter
Than her teared face glistens
'Bout the leash and fashionista's
Tight grip in which it's held
Though fox terrier madly thrashes
And yaps as bloody hell
And that beggar on the church steps
Who's recently vanished
Talk aloud of so-called mercy
And similar rubbish
I talk of you as I proceed
My ex but once best bud
You truly did a human deed
You pounced and sucked my blood
Perhaps it's time to strip the togs
Of lofty thoughts miles thick
Or I'll get mad and help you with
A well placed roundhouse kick
