Close to Nature

It's quite dark as I start my journey on foot
I feel the cold though well wrapped up for route
The sound of crunching leaves under my feet I hear
The songs of birds chatting chirpily fills the air

A sudden rustling in front of me makes me pause
I catch a fleeting glimpse of a rabbit darting across
The sun now softly peers through the trees bright
Casting long shadows and glimmering cones of light

Tiny luminous things glow in the shaft of light
As they dance and dart around, what a sight!
The air in front of my face bellows with a cloudy mist
I am breathing, but not smoking from which I desist

Large tree trunks shaded on one side stand in the way
The gathering wind making the frailer ones gently sway
More leaves keep floating to the ground in the shade
And all at once, I come upon a peaceful grassy glade

A busy stream runs through bubbling with cheek
And colourful flowers in scattered groups greet
A herd of cattle with disdain graze lazily
Little calves dancing around them playfully

I feel at Peace, in some ways a stranger
But for certain, much closer to Nature
