A Dog speaks out

I am a dog, make no mistake.
Listen well, there's so much at stake,
I seek from you a clarification
On behalf of dogs for their edification
Let me ask you to explain why
Men think we are so stupid and shy

Look at things they want us to go after
He throws a stick into ice cold water
Then expects me to jump in and pick
I mean to say, if he wants that stick
why not bloody well get it himself
Pardon my French! so angry myself

They speak to me in English quite sharpish
Ever do that to a Man who knows no English?
They can't be bothered to learn doggy talk
Some do try a bit, I must admit as I bark
I mean to say, is it too much to expect
for a dog to be treated with some respect?

They bribe us with bones as they rant
of course we know what they want
Humour them we do, the stupid fools
Training they call it, with their silly rules
To see their smiling faces as we oblige
We consider it worth some loss of pride

Some try to dress us, for Heaven's sake!
Can't they see our coats for goodness sake
How stupid some of us dogs look in a cape
poor fools without means of escape
The variety and beauty of our own covering
Men cannot match with their tasteless draping

Have to say some Humans are good
Play with us, pet us and give us food
Look after us when we are unwell
Give us shelter and treat us well
despite expressing ourselves from time to time
with fearful growls, bared teeth and whine

'Tis not a bad life after all, if you don't mind
No work, no taxes, nothing of the kind
Not limited to one partner, quite free to love
So many to choose from, such a treasure trove
Kids love us and families accept us, warmly
A dog's life is not such a bad life, definitely
