Take this pain apart
like a prism, break it down
the spectrum lies awake
deliciously
against the bedside morning

Long ago it never felt like this
train of nerves spread
across the threshold, hanging
teeth to dry
on the clothesline overlooking
the tin roofs —of a city
left to the wayward hills.
