Childhood contrasts

The child in a rotten slum
A torn and dirty dress but never glum
Her house, a crowded hut
Her meals, scraps of food as eat she must
Will there be another meal today or tomorrow?

The child in the posh suburb
Bored and lonely
What can I do
The computer is faulty
Nothing on TV, what shall I do

Yet her face is wreathed in smiles
Amused, curiously gazing at a leaf she picked
From her cluttered path as she skipped
Darting about giggling and laughing
Wide eyed, innocent and sadness defying

Feet soft with Nike
Shirt soft and silky
My bare feet hurt on this awful path
Hate being out in the Sun, I need my shades,
I am bored, come all, share my wrath

Her playground is the Earth
Imagination her entertainment
Curiosity her mirth
Say what you mean, no need for tact
Honesty pays isn’t that a fact

No friends to play with today
Out they are all, on holiday
Ate all the chocs, drank all the Cola
Time hangs, bored little fella
Not one on facebook, oh I am bored!
