IS THIS PATH ETHICAL
So difficult to navigate this path I say
Seems never-ending, obstacles all the way,
But the anticipated goal makes it worthwhile
Comfort, wealth, happiness, one big smile!
Guilt sets in with the awareness
That at times, in my strategy
the profit motive overrides ethics, sadly
But hey! Don’t I pass on gifts all the way
Gifts for the needy, the poor, gifts for the unwise
Gifts that would not be possible otherwise
Sure, I end up with the ‘Golden flower’
Which is mainly for my benefit
Yes, it appears selfish and unfit
Especially as my power to navigate
Was derived at times ruthlessly
At times not that ethically
But those gifts wouldn’t have been in my power
Those small but many valuable gifts on the way
And possibly to share the final ‘Golden Flower’
If I had been scrupulously ethical, I say
Is this a case of the end justifying the means?
Is this an instance of selfish altruism?
Is the pursuit of profit therefore acceptable?
Is this the way to justify the market economy?
Seems never-ending, obstacles all the way,
But the anticipated goal makes it worthwhile
Comfort, wealth, happiness, one big smile!
Guilt sets in with the awareness
That at times, in my strategy
the profit motive overrides ethics, sadly
But hey! Don’t I pass on gifts all the way
