I once woke up in a night bus
seeing null and void around
penguins and ostrichs didn't make fuss
no shriek and no bird's sound

I thought it must'ev been Cracow
penguins are in colder ground
there are ostrichs here and now
in suburbs oftenmost found

these ostrichs run wild late night
watching us in any bus
in dark they have the bats' sight
at day they hide in woods from us

thus in that bus sitting at dawn
dawning on me a new thought
penguins are gone, ostrichs are gone
where are they all to be sought?
