No gain without pain

We all have to make sacrifices I suppose
Birds gave up arms to gain wings
Kangaroos their fore legs to hop on rear ones
Politicians gave up honour to get votes

Asked to be tactful, children learned to lie
And men called ugly women beautiful, why?
Leaders by being obstinate became “courageous”
Standing by their beliefs when obviously outrageous

Their “principles” became their “principal” weakness
They ceased to believe what they saw
And chose to ignore what they heard
Cry Democracy before elections
Then autocracy despite objections
